Bio

Avvy is a fresh, young, and talented artist infused with a whole lot of Bahamian flavor. Hailing from Great Inagua, he reveals one of the islands "Best Kept Secrets." His debut single, "Roach on My Bread," hit the Bahamian music scene in September of 2005. If you listen to his album, The Best of "THE BEST KEPT SECRET", Volume 1, you will find that his music is not only richly rooted in Bahamian rhythm but also lyrically charged and upbeat.

A rare, dynamic and true performer, Avvy not only can sing, dance and put on a spellbinding show, but he can also write the lyrics that make you actually listen to the words of the song. As the author of his songs, "Roach on my Bread", "Ghost Move" and "Wine Grammy Wine," he displays his ability to continue on the tradition in Bahamian music of storytelling in a fun and captivating manner. Although he is a young artist, his music seems to magically blend the "old time" Bahamian music with the new, making him a forerunner for the next generation of Bahamian music.

Avvy began actively writing music in April of 2005 and preformed his first song, "Roach on My Bread," in August 2005 at the Great Inagua Homecoming festivities. With the encouragement of family and the support of the Inaguan public, he decided to make his music available to the nation.

The inspiration of his songs comes from family, friends, relationships, and his ability to sit back and observe the "goings on" in his community. Avvy's traditional role models are his parents, and immediate family members. His father was a musician for a few local Inaguan bands. He also has uncles who sang old rake and scrape songs in the late 60's and early 70's. His musical role models range from various genres and artists such as Michael Jackson (pop), Otis Redding (soul) and Sizzla (reggae). But Bahamian music remains his favorite, in his words, "BUT YINNA KNOW, I ga always luv da real deal Bahamian ting." Avvy has a great love and passion for Bahamian music and he looks up to artists such as Dry Bread, Ronnie Butler, Eddie Minis, Ira Storr, Geno D, Funky D and D Mac to name a few.

Although new to the national music scene, Avvy is not new to music. Avvy started playing instruments before he reached the first grade. He is trained to play and is fond of many instruments such as the drums, recorder, bass horn, trombone and baritone. He is very familiar with all Junkanoo instruments and takes full advantage of every opportunity to "Rush Out!"

A musician, songwriter and performer, Avvy is a complete package whose future promises to make an indelible and significant mark on the face of Bahamian music and usher in the wave of the next generation of Bahamian music and artists.
